In the UNESCO/Japan Funds-in-Trust project, the sub-regional
seminar and the summary meeting of the project “Supporting
Silk Roads in Central Asia” (2nd phase) of Japan Funds-in-Trust
were jointly held in Almaty from 26 to 28 June 2019 by the
UNESCO Office in Almaty, the W orld Heritage Centre, the
UNESCO Office in Tashkent, the Ministry of Culture and Sports
of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The seminar brought together 48 participants, including representatives
from the UNESCO, the National Commission for
UNESCO of the four Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) and the cultural relics sector,
and representatives from University College London (UCL), the
International Institute for Central Asia Studies(IICAS), University
of Western Australia (UWA), Tianjin University, Teikyo University,
IICC-X also participated in the meeting. During the seminar, the
management of w orld heritage along the Silk R oad w as
discussed as well as new objectives and work plans were
formulated for the application of the Silk Roads in Central Asia,
and it was hoped that after the nomination of the project of th e
Japan Funds-in-Trust, all parties would continue to maintain
close communication and coordination. The delegates spoke
highly of the work of IICC-X in technical advice and assistance,
personnel training, construction of the Silk Roads data platform,
cross-border coordination, and resource sharing, and hoped to
continue to strengthen cooperation and coordination with IICC-X
in various fields.
