To assist the “South Asia Corridor” of the Silk Road to prepare
transnational serial nominations for the World Heritage
List, and provide academic support for it, a joint archaeo -
logical team was formed by Qinghai Provincial Cultural
Relics and Archaeology Institute, the department of Cultural
Heritage of Northwest University Culture A joint archaeological
team was formed by the Heritage C ollege and the
Shaanxi Institute of Archaeology under the guidance of the
State Administration of Cultural Heritage and organized by
the Qinghai Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau.
In 2019, the South Asia corridor (Qinghai section) of the silk
road made a supplementary investigation on the ruins in
Hainan Province on the basis of the 2018 inves tigation. In
addition, it mainly completed the archaeological investigation
on the ancient roads and relics along the line in Haid -
ong area, involving 8 counties and regions. The ancient
road ruins were investigated and recorded in sections. The
ancient cities and beacon towers are the main sites along
the line.
In mid-April, a forum on archaeological findings of the South
Asia corridor of the Silk Road (Qinghai section) was held in
Xining. This academic forum has not only publicized the
latest archaeological achievements in the Qinghai section of
South Asia corridor and its surrounding areas, but also
strengthened academic exchanges in various provinces and
regions along the South Asia corridor, pointing out the key
points and directions for the future investigation work.
