The joint archaeological work between China and Uzbekistan had achieved initial results showing that the Rabat cemetery in the city of Baysun in southern Uzbekistan should be the remains of the Rouzhi. The archaeological achievements enriched the understanding of the cultural heritage of the ancient Silk Roads.

The Sino-Uzbek Joint Archaeological Team held a workshop at Termez State University, Uzbekistan on June 5-8 to report and discuss the archaeological results. Dozens of archaeological researchers, government officials, scholars presented the workshop and visited archaeological field.

Professor Wang Jianxin from the Northwest University reported on the harvest and cognition of archaeological investigations in Western Tianshan Mountains. Professor Liang Yun provided some photo- graphs of precious cultural relics excavated from No.36 tomb of Rabat Cemetery in Baysun City, including gold ornaments, glass, jade and agate. These pictures were firstly published to the media by the Sino-Uzbek Joint Archaeological Team.

Song Xinchao, Deputy Director of China State Administration of Cul- tural Heritage, said that the Silk Roads are the humanity historical and cultural heritage. It is a historical symbol and sign of the peace- ful exchange, harmonious coexistence and common development of various civilizations, diverse cultures and multiple human groups. The Chinese government will continue to support the Chinese archaeological community in cooperation with international academic institutions along the Silk Roads and continue to carry out archaeo- logical work in depth.
