From August 6 to September 14, the Shanghai Museum and Central Cultural Fund (CCF) of Sri Lanka established a joint archaeological team to conduct a comprehensive survey and key exploration of the Jaffna District. It is the first official cooperation on archaeological excavation between China and Sri Lanka.

After 40 days of excavation and research, the first collaborative archaeological project between China and Sri Lanka has achieved phased results: more than 600 pieces of exported porcelain fragments dating back to the late Northern Song Dynasty were unearthed at the Allaippiddi Site in Jaffna, an important port city in Northern Sri Lanka. These exported porcelains were mainly produced in the coastal areas of Southeastern China, mostly from Xicun Kiln and Chaozhou Kiln of Guangzhou, with a small number from Yaozhou Kiln.

The excavation of exported porcelains in the Allaippiddi Site provides detailed material evidences for the understanding of the Maritime Silk Roads and its commercial and cultural exchanges, as well as great academic significance for the study of trade routes, transshipment networks and Sino-Sri Lankan cultural communications at that time.
