In mid-to-late June, Samarkand, small scattered earth yellow houses and glazed turquoise spire add radiance and beauty to each other in the blue sky and white clouds. This ancient city in Middle Asia, which located in the heartland of the ancient Silk Road, contains Turkish cultural characteristics, merges Persian feeling and Chinese architectural pattern together at the same time.

At present, the outdoor temperature of Samarkand has reached 40 degree centigrade. In the suburb, an archaeologist named Jianxin Wang, who comes from Northwest University of China is leading his team digging a tomb of ancient Yuezhi people. To protect the tomb, the archaeological team throws up a barrack-like temporary house on the scene, with complete recording instrument and measuring instrument in it. They are waiting for the cultural relics to be unearthed.

“To know the development and prosperity of the Ancient Silk Road, we have to start from the ancient nomadic people Yuezhi. ” said Xinjian Wang to a reporter from Xinhua News Agency.

In the 2nd Century, defeated by Xiongnu, the nomadic people Yuezhi that lived in mainland China were forced to move to Central Asia. Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty dispatched Qian Zhang to the Western Region in order to unite Yuezhi people against Xiongnu,

which helped join up the Silk Road. After Han Dynasty, Yuezhi People who were talented in business had more frequent contacts with inland China. Thus, large multinational trading companies were operated through the Silk Road. Centered in Uzbekistan, Western products were brought to Eastern countries, eastern civilisation was introduced to the western world.

“This project can not only help us understand the contact between ancient Uzbekistan and China, but also help to promote communication between the two countries in archaeological circles and cultural field, I’m the first Uzbekistan post-graduate student of Professor Wang. I hope students from the countries along ‘One Belt One Road’ can participate in such kind of research. Modern culture can’t develop without the exploration of ancient civilisation.” An Uzbek Student He Su told Xinhua reporter.

When it comes to his research of the cross-border nationalities, Jianxin Wang said, this period of history evolved between China and Uzbekistan. When archaeologists from the two countries cooperated with each other, they have a kind of natural intimate feeling. Qian Zhang, who went to the Western Regions to look for Yuezhi People with a lot of hardships, became a pioneer to the Silk Road; By taking advantage of modern archaeological methods, we pursue the migration footprints of Yuezhi people all the way to Samarkand. We could also be the cultural forerunners on the new Silk Road economic belt.

Tourist income was the main economic sources of more than one thousand residents in ancient Khiva. At present, the architectures in the city are old and fragile, parts are open to the tourists. As an important program of cultural and humanities cooperation between China and Uzbekistan in the frame of “One Belt and One Road”, Chinese experts will protect and restore the Amir Tula Institute and Hassan Murad Mosque in the ancient city. When completed, the tourists will have a more complete view of the city.

“The ancient city Khiva represents the splendid history and national confidence of Uzbekistan, which is the most precious cultural treasures cherished by Uzbekistan people. Entrusted by Uzbekistan, China has an incomparable trust by the restoration. A success not only drive local tourism, but also improve friendship between the two countries. “The director of China’s State Administration of Cultural Heritage said.

Careful working and advanced technique had moved Mr. Rafi Covic, deputy director of Uzbekistan Administration of Cultural Heritage Protection and Utilisation. He said that there are many cultural relics that require restoring in famous Silk Road historical cities like Samarkand and Bokhara. They hope to cooperate more with China in the future.

An local official from Xorazm Province, where Khiva located, was totally convinced by Chinese expert’s attitude. “You respect the cultural relics in our country more than ourselves, so you are worthy of respect. ” said him with his thumbs up to Yunfei Qiao, Chinese team leader and restoration expert.

Mutual communications among different civilisations is the key drive to the progress and development of humanity. The cooperation and friendship between China and Uzbekistan has a long history. People from the two countries have understood each other through the Silk Road, which laid a solid foundation for common prosperity and harmonious development. It is believed that the Silk Road will link China and Uzbekistan closely again to create a better future.
