Recently the city of Xining in Qinghai, China has organized a f orum on
achievements made during the archaeological survey of the Silk Road’s South
Asia Corridor (Qinghai section). 15 new sites were discovered during the
survey of 135 sites of historical periods. This survey contributed significantly
to the preparation for the World Heritage site nomination by providing aca -
demic supports.
The South Asia Corridor (Qinghai section) of the Silk Road preserv es rich
remains of ancient civilizations. The current investigation was collaboratively
organized by the Qinghai Bureau of Cultural Relics, Qinghai Academy of Cultural
relics and Archaeology, and the Cultural Heritage Department of the
Northwestern University from June to November, 2018. Consisted of over ten
experts and scholars, the investigation team studied the invent ory of sites
located along the South Asia Corridor of the Silk Road, and applied the
method of covering the entire-ground to survey over five states and sixteen
counties in Qinghai Province.
