2019 Archaeological Investigation and Excavation in the Proto-urban Site of Sarazm in Tajikistan is Completed

At the invitation of Farhod, President of Academy of Sciences of the
Republic of Tajikistan, and in preparation for the series activities of “5500
Years of Sarazm” of Tajikistan, a Sino-Tajik joint archaeological team is
formed to participate in the archaeological work of the Proto-urban Site of
Sarazm in Tajikistan by Luoyang Cultural Relics and Archaeology
Research Institute, the Department of Archaeology of Northwest University
and Institute of history, archaeology and nationalities of Academy of
Sciences. The archaeological work lasted from October 11th to 20th,
2019.
During the 10-day archaeological excavation, the team has explo red an
area of 10,000 square meters, and found 13 sites of relics of various
types. For the first time, the team discovered the water system of the
relics, and verified the existence of a previously suspected burial area. In
addition, they helped the Russian archaeological team working at the site
of Sarazm to carry out excavation work, and made accurate judgments on
the shape, depth and nature of the archaeological features of the area to
be excavated.
Although the duration of this archaeological excavation is not very long,
the results are quite rich. At the same time, China's unique archaeological
exploration technology has been highly recognized by the Tajikistan team.
They greatly improved the team’ s work efficiency and their further understanding
of the site.
