The groundbreaking ceremony of the construction project of Gansu Jiandu documentation museum was held in Lanzhou on 31st July. The museum, which includes one floor underground and four-story main building above ground, is scheduled to be completed and open to the public in 2021. At that time, a large number of precious cultural relics "hidden in the storage" in Gansu, the hometow n of Han bamboo slips, will be effectively displayed and properly utilized. Bamboo slips are the precious historical and cultural heritage of the Chinese nation. Gansu bamboo slips have the characteristics of the earliest unearthed time, the greatest influence at home and abroad, the richest content with the strongest discipline construction and most research achievements. It is the most symbolic cultural relic resource and important cultural symbol in Gansu. Ma Yuping, Director of the Gansu Provincial Administrator of Cultural Heritage, said that since Stein first excavated bamboo slips in Dunhuang in 1907, more than 30 batches of over 80,000 bamboo slips have been unearthed in Gansu in more than a hundred years. Gansu bamboo slips are not only an encyclopedia in medieval China, but also a physical evidence of the prosperity of the ancient Silk Road, which is of great historical, scientific and artistic value.
