The two breweriesJing A from Beijing and Mengshen from Hong Kongwere inspired byrecent archaeological findingsin which a 5,000-year-old formula for beer was published,originally created in an ancient brew house in Chinas XianShaanxi province.

The brew house is part of the Mijiaya historic sitewhere an archaeological group fromStanford University conducted researchuncovering ancient brewing equipment andvessels.

The tools and vessels are the same as those that people use in modern timesthedifference lies in the formula,” said Liu Lia professor of archaeology at StanfordUniversityBy analyzing the remains of ancient beerarchaeologists found that it was madefrom milletbarleypearl barley and bit of rhizome plantswhich is different from modernbeerwhich mainly feeds on barley and wheat.

So what is the flavor of beer from over 5,000 years agoLiu said it is totally different fromtodays beer.

It would taste like a sweet wine that is low in alcohola little sour and without any visiblebubbles.”
