In the framework of the 2nd phase of the UNESCO/Japanese Funds-in-Trust project on “Support for Documentation Standards and Procedures of the Silk Roads World Heritage Serial and Transnational Nomination in Central Asia”, the World Heritage Centre and the UNESCO Office in Tashkent in cooperation with the Principal Department for the Preservation and Utilization of Cultural Objects of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan will organize a sub-regional meeting and on-site training-workshop.

  • The sub-regional meeting will bring together national experts from the States Parties of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, international and regional experts, as well as UNESCO representatives and other partners. The objective of the meeting is to review progress towards management plans elaborated by the five Central Asian countries for the component parts/sites of the Silk Roads Heritage Corridors. The sub-regional meeting will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 13-14 September 2017.
  • From 12 to 20 September 2017, on-site training-workshop will be organized in Tashkent, Samarkand and Khiva (Itchan Kala), Uzbekistan. The aim of the training-workshop is to teach young architects and archaeologists state-of-the-art methods for preserving, landscaping and utilizing historical buildings and landscapes through the creation of 3D models of historical buildings. The workshop will be conducted by specialists from the Japanese Mukogawa Women’s University and Research Institute of Cultural Properties of Teikyo University. After the training, the drones (i.e. unmanned aerial vehicles) will be handed over to the Principal Department for the Preservation and Utilization of Cultural Objects for future documentation of architectural monuments and archaeological sites.
