The investigated Weihe River bridge-sites are located on the northern side of Han Period Chang’an City-site in the northern suburbs of Xi’an City and were discovered in April 2012, which was followed by the archaeological survey, drill-exploration and salvage excavation carried out by the Weihe Bridges Archaeological Team in June 2012 to December 2013. So far they discovered seven bridges of three groups on the northern and northeastern sides of Han Period Chang’an City. Of findings the grouped five-bridges located to the north of Xixi Village is called “Chucheng-Gate Bridges” for they lie just opposite to the Chucheng Gate in the northern wall of Han Chang’an City; that located to the north of Gaomiao Village and lying opposite to the Luocheng Gate in the northern wall of Han Chang’an City is called “Luocheng-Gate Bridge;” and the one discovered at Wangjiapu of Caotan Town to the northeast of Han Chang’an City is named “Wangjiapu Bridge.” The Weihe River Bridges held an important position in the cultural development course of a long historical period. The discovery and ascertainment of the Chucheng-Gate bridge-group not only provided valuable data for research into the history of ancient bridges, but also has important significance to the further study of the Qin Period Xianyang City and the Han Period Chang’an City.
