Hindu mythology is full of fascinating stories about incredible gods, goddesses, amazing creatures, wonderful places, unusual objects and powerful technologies that can be used for good or bad purposes.

Mysterious Nagas are some of the most intriguing creatures that we meet in Hindu myths and legends. Known as snake people, they say that they live in two magnificent underground cities known as Patala and Bhogavati.

The Nagas play an important role in Hindu mythology, but these creatures are known all over the world under different names.

Ancient legends of snake people can be found in all corners of the world. Present in different parts of the globe – like “Nagas” (“snakes”) in India, Amaru from South America, Quetzalcoatl (“Crimson snakes”) in Mexico, Jedi (“snakes”) in Egypt, “Dragons”) in China or , perhaps “Adlers” (“snakes”) in Britain – “Serpents of Wisdom” were met by indigenous peoples and worshiped “Prophets of Serpents”.

Legends say that these wonderful, enlightened beings who could take the form of a person or reptiles at will, created underground cities around the world.

Under the guidance of snake people, numerous dragon cults were created, religious buildings were built, which consisted of colossal pyramids, many bas-reliefs on serpentine motifs and they ruled the Kings of the Dragons.

The word Naga comes from Sanskrit, and the naga is the word for the snake, especially the cobra. Patala and Bhogavati, the underground kingdoms of the Nagas are well hidden and it is impossible to find them.

Many people in India believe that there is an entrance to the underground labyrinths in the Sheshna Well, in Benares, leading to the mysterious Patal kingdom.

According to herpetologist and researcher Sherman A. Minton, as stated in his book “Poisonous reptiles”, this entrance is very real, forty steps that descend into a circular mine, end at a closed stone door, which is covered with a bas-relief depicting a cobra.

In Tibet, there is a large mystical shrine, also called “Patala”, which stands on an ancient cave and tunnel system that extends throughout the Asian continent and possibly beyond.

Nagas are connected with water, and therefore many believe that the secret entrances to their underground kingdoms are at the bottom of wells, deep lakes and rivers.

Ancient myths and legends say that Nagi is a very advanced species that has access to incredibly complex technologies. Vedic literature contains many descriptions of aircraft called “Vimana”, which flew not only across the sky, but also into space.
