Shaan’ xi Institute of Archaeology and the Institute of Historical
and Cultural Relics of the Kyrkyzstan Science Academy has
signed an agreement in 2017, launching a cooperative project
of archaeological investigations, excavations, and research on
the site of Krasnaya Rechka in the future. Preliminary achievements
have been achieved.
One of the largest sites of ancient cities, Krasnaya Rechka is
located near the village of the same name, in Chuy, Kyrghyzstan.
Its central area was preserved in a relatively good condition,
and considered to be Nevaket, a medieval city recorded in
Chinese historical texts. The site becomes an important
cultural remains representing the development of the Silk
Road, because of its impressive combination of religious contexts
and indigenous architectural styles that incorporated
multi-cultural sources.
The China-Kryghyzstan Cooperative Archaeology Team has
officially launched the second-year excavation of the site. In
the past two years, the team has achieved impressive progress
by compiling a comprehensive record of the entire site, espe -
cially important sections, with application of a range of technical
tools, such as archaeological detective, RTK surveying and
mapping, arial photography with drones, and 3D scanning.
