Northwestern University Initiated a Four-country Archeology Investigation on Fergana Valley

From 10 to 12 September, a four-country archaeological investigation on
Fergana Valley was held in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, initiated by Northwestern
University(China) and co-hosted by Institute of History, Archaeology and
Ethnology of Kyrgyzs Academy of Sciences.
15 Chinese scholars from Northwestern University, the Palace Museum,
Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology, Xi 'an Institute of Cultural
Heritage Conservation and Archaeology, Luoyang Institute of Cultural
Heritage and Archaeology, together with 9 scholars from Kyrgyzstan,
Uzbekistan and Tajikistan participated in the joint archeological investigation.
Scholars from four countries investigated Sulayman Too, which is listed as
the World Heritage Site, DaWan Flyhorse Rock Paintings of Ayrymach
Too, the minarets and cemetery of medieval Uzgen city, as well as ancient
city ruins of Shoro Bashat during Dawan period, and exchanged i deas
with local scholars, teachers and students of the Osh State University.
Experts from four countries discussed and formulated a joint archaeology
research plan of 2020. Scholars who participated in the investigation said
that this investigation marks the beginning of establishing a multinational
cooperation and exchange mechanism of archaeological investigation on
Fergana Valley. During the joint investigation, scholars from various countries
also discussed the field investigation, cultural heritage conservation,
public archaeology and the establishment of multinational coope rationand exchange mechanism on Fergana Valley. Scholars from Kyrgyzstan,
Uzbekistan and Tajikistan expressed their willingness to
establish a multilateral cooperation and exchange mechanism on
Fergana Valley, on the basis of existing bilateral cooperative relations
with Chinese academic institutions, holding regular academic
exchanges activities. Besides, they hoped that Chinese archaeological
community can provide support for the joint archaeological
work in various aspects. Chinese scholars said they will work hard
to cooperate with scholars from other countries in archaeology
research, cultural heritage conservation and personnel training ,
and would like to share China's experience in cultural heritage conservation
with scholars from other countries.
