The Silk Road Archaeology Committee Under China Institute of Archaeology founded
For enhancing the communication and cooperation in the area of Silk Road
archaeology and its relevant fields, and promoting the development of Chinese
archaeological research about the Silk Road, the Ningxia Institute of Archaeology,
Research Center for
Chinese Frontier Archaeology of Jilin University, and the Silk Road
Archaeology Committee of the Chinese Institute of Archaeology have hosted the “International Symposium on Early Silk Roads and
East-West Cultural Exchanges, and the Inaugural Meeting of
the Silk Road Archaeology Committee of the Institute of Archaeology” at
Yinchuan and Guyuan of the Ningxia Province from September 22nd to
25th, 2016. More than 80 Chinese and overseas
Silk Road archaeologists and scholars have attended the conference.
In the evening of September 22nd, Chinese and overseas Silk
Road archaeologists and scholars have attended the inaugural
meeting of the Silk Road Archaeology Committee of the Institute of Archaeology,
which is hosted by the researcher An Jiayao from the the Insitute of
Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Researcher Jiao Nanfeng
attended the meeting in representation of the committee. The election at the
meeting produces the director, executive deputy director, vice director, and
the secretary general of the committee. The meeting also finalized the list of
over 60 committee members. Members at the meeting provided an in-depth
discussion about the regulations of the Silk road Archaeology Committee, and
put forward the prospect of the committee.
In the morning of 23rd,
September, the inaugural meeting of the Silk Road Archaeology Committee of the
Institute of Archaeology was hosted by Researcher An Jiayao. Researcher Jiao
Nanfeng from the Silk Road Archaeology Committee declared on behalf of the
President of the Institute of Archaeology Wang Ji about the approval of the
establishment of the Silk Road Archeology Committee, and the nomination list of
the director, executive deputy director, vice director, and the secretary
general of the committee. The Secretary General of the Chinsese Institute of
Archaeology, Professor Shen Ruiwen, read out the Regulation of the Silk road
Archaeology Committee. In the following stage, a heated discussion around the
topic of the early Silk Road and the East-West cultural exchanges was taken
place in both Yinchuan and Guyuan. Around 30 Chinese and overseas scholars
addressed gracious lectures about the cultural exchanges on the Eurasian
Continent from the Paleolithic period to the Qin-Han period, and the latest
research achievements in the field of archaeometry, including the dissemination
of metal works, and the molecular archaeology of animals. Representatives
speaked highly about this well-organized meeting, its in-depth discussions and
rich research results, and praised that this meeting promoted the research in
relevant areas, and further improved our comprehensions of the early cultural
exchanges between the East and the West.
