Terracotta warriors in armor are regaining their majestic appearance after three years of a restoration carried out by Shaanxi Normal University, reported cnwest.com.

The figures, 45 in total, were unearthed from Hanyang Mausoleum in Shaanxi province in the 1990s. The warriors, with square faces, bodies molded in clay and wooden arms, are about 60 cm tall. The findings indicate that the warriors were wearing silk or linen garments and their amour was made of leather.

As the statues are centuries old, the coats and armor had fallen off, although some drawings and clothes were still intact.

Restoration on the 45 figures has been ongoing since October 2013 and experts have been conducting restoration work. They focused on recovery of the broken legs and backs, as well as removing dirt off the warriors. The armor was also solidified through special materials.

The restored warriors will be introduced to the public soon, after being kept under observation in the storeroom, according to Li Ku of the Hanyangling Museum.
