The exhibition, which opened at Doha's Museum of Islamic Art on Sept 7 and runs to Jan 7, embarks the audience upon a time-travel through the birth of Chinese civilization, the formation of Silk Road and the dynamics of royal art. The exhibits from five Chinese museums range from pottery, bronzeware and jade articles to other works of art. The highlights are the Terracotta Warriors from the Mausoleum of Qinshi Huang, the first emperor of China. The exhibition is made possible under a Years of Culture program run by Qatar Museums,a government body supervising museums, art exchanges and cultural heritage in Qatar. Every year the program presents exchange activities in cooperation with a partner country. So far the Qatar China 2016 has staged a Chinese contemporary art exhibition curated by Cai Guoqiang and a show of Chinese silk art. A Qatari exhibition about the history of cultivating pearls and crafting pearl jewelry will open at Beijing's National Museum of China on Sept 27. |
