Domestic and International scholars discussion Steppe Silk Road , Beijing

2015 International Academic ArchaeologySeminar on Steppe Silk Road , held by the Northern Ethic Archaeology Institute，Archaeologyand Museology Department under History School of Renmin University of China,was taken place from 17th to 18th October, Beijing. Over 80 scholars togetherdiscussed and studied the latest archaeological discovery and research outcomesof Steppe Silk Road . This seminar was divided into 4 themes. “Discovery and study”,“Culture and Technique”, “Interaction and communication”, “Religions and Art”.Domestic and International Scholars introduced new archaeological findings ofAiden Djourou ruins and cemetery, Xiaohe Culture and the progress of otherdisciplines in Xin Jiang;  two Turkstombs-Ulan grams Jaime tomb and the tomb of Fall in the ancient of Mongolia;Medieval archaeological materials and relevant studies of inner and outer LakeBaikal; Archaeological findings and study of the Site of the Upper Capital ofthe Liao Dynasty and Zhongdu (the Middle Capital) of Yuan Dynasty; Excavationof Qianguo Tahu city ruins in Jilin Province. The seminar discussed thepedigree and category of bronze in West Shanxi region, mining and metallurgysites of early bronze age in West Liaoning Province, the development and spreadof steel in northwest Asia, the cultural connection reflected by the irondagger unearthed from Mancheng Tomb, the official managed lacquer production ofHan Dynasty, the western culture influence reflected by the gold and silver ofLiao Dynasty. Focused on the culture and technique of Silk Road archaeology, aswell as the topic of “ Interaction and communication”, the seminar presentedthe migration and cultural exchange of Euro-Asia grassland people, the culturallandscape study of eastern grassland, the discussion of early east-westinteraction from the aspect of mace head, the upper-class comparative study ofTurkic and Uighur Khanates. The religion and art, as a hot topic of culturalresearch of Euro-Asia grassland, received the attention of participants. Thecacuminous  Coronary symbols ofpotteries, northern grassland cultural elements of jade accessories, Sogdiansand the religion, Rouran and the Silk Road were discussed during the seminar.Furthermore, some scholars proposed the worldwide vision ofSteppe Silk Road study, considered the Steppe Silk Road  should be the historical progress of integralinteraction of northern Euro-Asia.

Professor Wei Jian from Archaeology andMuseology department under the History School of Renmin University of Chinaindicated during the meeting conclusion: “Concentrated on the key and hottopics of latest Steppe Silk Road archaeology researches, the participants submitted papers of highquality, gave decent reports. I wish more opportunities could be created in thefuture, to strengthen the communication among the scholars in this field.”
