摘文:燃灯佛本生像,经在犍陀罗艺术中反复出现,这部本生经是关于一个苦行僧善慧(Sumedha),他从一个名叫Yashodhra的女孩那里购买莲花。燃灯佛即将参观苏梅达镇,当他到来的消息传到苏梅达时,他想买些鲜花迎接燃灯佛,但他无法购买,是因为国王下令保留镇上所有的鲜花来迎接燃灯佛,善慧设法从一位少女那里得到了五朵莲花,后来他把那些莲花在燃灯佛上空悬空。善慧顶礼于燃灯佛前,将长发披散于地,以避佛赤足脚从腐烂的土壤中行走。燃灯佛对他的虔诚印象深刻,预言善慧会成为下一个佛,授记说:“善男子,汝于来世,当得作佛,号释迦牟尼。”

  The association of lotus with DipankaraJataka is verified by the text itself. Dipankara Jataka isrepeatedly portrayed in Gandhara art. This jataka is about an ascetic,Sumedha who is represented purchasing lotus flowersfrom a girl named Yashodhra. Dipankara Buddha was about to visit the town of Sumedha. Whenthe news of his advent reached Sumedha , he rushed to buy some flowers for the reception ofDipankara Buddha. But he was unable to purchase them because the king had ordered toreserve all the flowers of the town for greeting Dipankara Buddha. Sumedha managed to get only fivelotuses from a maiden. Later he showered those lotuses over Dipankara Buddha where theyremained suspended in the air. Sumedha prostrated before the Dipankara Buddha and spreadhis long hair on the ground to avoid Buddha’s feet to be spoilt from soil. Dipankara Buddhaimpressed by his devotion, predicted that Sumedha would become the nextBuddha. All these acts are assembled andrepresented together in one panel.


  

  参考:据《瑞应本起经》卷上所述,释迦牟尼过去世曾是虔诚敬佛的善慧童子,当时他曾重金买下一枝稀罕的五茎莲花,供养给燃灯佛。由于莲花是佛教中的圣花(《妙法莲花经》即以莲花来象征佛教教义的纯洁高雅),五茎莲花更是圣花中之珍品。因此,这个供养使燃灯如来深为高兴,佛在欢悦之余,给这位佛子(释迦的前身)授记,预言他将成佛,授释迦牟尼佛。据《佛本行集经》,卖花女预言善慧童子必能成佛,说:“我愿生生世世,做你的妻子,你若得道,我当剃发出家,做你的弟子。”善慧童子回答:“如你所愿,我愿你做我妻子。”卖花女卖给童子五枝优懵藁ǎ?溆嗔街Γ?盟??约翰际??胫??魑蠢匆蛟怠6酝?铀担骸?腹踩晟???δ?嗌崂搿!?艋ㄅ?聪ご锒嘀?蕖
