China Post officially launched the
special stamp“Monk Xuan Zang”with a set of two stamps and one sheetlet, which
were named“Going to the West for Buddhism”,“Returning to the East and Translate
Buddhist Scriptures”and “Portrait of Xuan Zang”. It was another series of
stamps of famous historical figure following the stamps of “Confucius”,“Guan Yu”,“Zhuge
Liang”and “Bao Zheng ”published by China Post.
Xuan Zang, who was
respectfully called as“Tripitaka Dharma Master”, was a Scholar of Buddhism of
Tang dynasty, tourist, translator of Buddhist scriptures, founder of Yogacara.
Chinese President Xi Jinping referred to Xuan Zang in various important
occasions such as the headquarters of UNESCO. “Xuan Zang made a long journey to
the West, obtaining the Buddhist scriptures through mountainous struggles,
which presented the tenacious spirit that Chinese people learned from foreign
cultures,”Xi said.
In order to develop
the national culture and expand the spirit of Xuan Zang, a launching ceremony
of the special stamp“Monk Xuan Zang”was held at Ci'en Temple, Xi'an Province
yesterday, which was approved by State Post Bureau, China Post Group
Corporation and jointly hosted by China Post Group Co., Ltd. Shaanxi branch,
Bureau of Religious Affairs of Shaanxi Province, Shaanxi Provincial Association
of Stamp Collecting and Hua Shang Media Group.
It was at this area that Monk Xuan Zang presided over the
construction of the Wild Goose Pagoda and translated the Buddhist scriptures
and imparted Buddhist knowledge 1,300 years ago. The Wild Goose Pagoda was
included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO two years ago, where Chinese
President Xi Jinping received Indian Prime Minister Modi and host the national
events one year ago. It was of great importance for the launching ceremony of
the special stamp.
It was the first time for China Post to issue the stamp
of “Monk Xuan Zang”. Its background was the Wild Goose Pagoda, the same as that
of the scene of the launching ceremony. Moreover, China Post donated a full
page permanent collection of the stamp of“Monk Xuan Zang”to the Ci'en Temple.
Yesterday’s ceremony attracted a number of domestic and
foreign tourists whom took photos with the special stamps of “Monk Xuan Zang”one
after another. From then on, the tiny stamps can spread over the world with the
spirit of Xuan Zang.
The publishing of
stamps is an act of the country that can represent the nation’s willing and is
honored as the name card of it. The name of“Xuan Zang”has
become the name card of China. That two name cards combine into one can better
