2016 Archaeological Work on Beshbalik City Ruins is Officially Open

   In mid-July, organized by the Xinjiang Team of the Institute of Archaeology of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, archaeological work in the year of 2016 on Beshbalik City Ruins is officially started. This year’s archaeological work will focus on the excavation of the outer wall of around the South Gate of Beshbalik City Ruins, to further determine the relationship between the existing walls on each side of the South Gate through the detection of the underground wall base. Approximately, this project will last for three months.

    Since 2010, the archaeological work on Beshbalik Ruins continues to be carried out, with the aim of investigating the traffic networks, doorways and layout of the ancient city, and determining the historical evolution of the main ruins through dissection and excavation on some selected sites. In recent years, after archaeological drilling and excavation on the North Gate and East Gate of the inner city, south outer wall, Yangma town, Hedong dam, West Temple and other sites, archaeologists have further determined the shape and structure of Beshbalik City Ruins, and also ascertained the east-west and south-north traffic networks of the inner city, some vaguely existing remains of water systems, and discovered 12 building foundations.

    A smooth carry out of the excavation work on Beshbalik City Ruins will turn the resources into advantages, and ensure the sustainable development of historical and cultural research in Beshbalik, and build foundation for the further construction of the archaeological park.
