Photo Exhibition on the Fifth Anniversary of Successful Nomination of Silk Roads Held in Baku, Azerbajian
In June 2019, it was the fifth anniversary of the of ficial inscription of the “Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang'an-T ianshan Corridor” as a world heritage site. On July 6, 2019, with the support of the National Cultural Heritage Administration of China, UNESCO WHC, ICOMOS, ICOMOS China and the Xi'an Munici -pal Government, during the 43rd World Heritage Conference held
in Baku, Azerbaijan, a photo exhibition on the fifth anniversary of the successful Nomination of Silk Roads as the World Heritage site "Silk Road: the Routes Network of Changan-Tianshan Corridor" and a side event of the Cultural Salon were held on the theme of "Poetry and the distance" by C hina, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The event, hosted by IICC-X, was opened at 18:00 local time at the Baku Convention Centre.
The guests at the exhibition were Liu Yuzhu, director of the State NCHA; Shen Yang, representative with the rank of ambassador of China to UNESCO; and Jing Feng, director of the Asia-Pacific

Qinghua, director of Xi'an Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Chai Xiaoming, and Lv Zhou,vice chairman of ICOMOS China, Hae Un Rii, former executive committee of ICOMOS (South Korea), Dmitry Voyakin, director of IICAS, etc. The event introduced the work related to the cultural scenery of the Silk Road and the preservation of the World Heritage site in the form of picture display and dynamic video broadcast. There were 80 selected works displayed at the scene to show the Silk Road sites, architecture, and cultural features. Nearly 100 international representatives visited and appreciated the charm and connotation of the Silk Road, and the audience intuitively felt the spread of the cultural and cultural scenery
and food on the Silk Road. The exhibition, which was held for two days at the Baku Convention Centre from 6 July to 7 July, was visited by representatives of experts from international institutions from all over the world.
In his speech, Mr. Liu Yuzhu, director of the NCHA, mentioned that the Silk Road was the intersection of ancient Eastern and Western civilizations linking the Eurasian continent, and that the prec ious heritage on the Silk Road was the precious heritage of human civilization. It has witnessed the interaction of different races, nations in the formation and development of the Silk Road. The Silk Road was not only a historical heritage, but also a contemporary concept,from which we should understand, the spirit that can deal with the relationship between different nationalities, cultures and civilizations. It played more and more important role in promoting the communication between the hearts of the people, carrying forward the spirit of Silk Road and promoting the construction of "Belt and Road Initiative". The side event with the theme of Silk Road photography covered the geographical features, traditional activities, and cultural customs along the Silk Road in China, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, and showed the Silk Road in a comprehensive and three-dimensional way, so that more people understood the Silk Road through pictures, felt the charm of cultural exchanges. It was also another joint activity of China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China will strengthen the conservation of cultural heritage along the "Belt and Road Initiative" line, make good use of historical and cultural heritage, deepen exchanges and cooperation with countries along the Silk Road, and enhance the awareness of the government and the people in the protection of cultural heritage, in order to build bilateral and multilateral exchange mechanisms and cooperation platforms for cultural heritage.
Mr. Shen Yang, representative with the rank of ambassador of China to UNESCO, said that the Silk Road closely united China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as the countries along the
Silk Road that were preparing to nominate the world heritage. We will work together to protect, publicize and develop cultural h eritage, promote exchanges and learn from each other among civilizations, and make the ancient Silk Road shine with a new era. Mr. Jing Feng, director of the Asia-Pacific Department of the UNESCO World Heritage Center, said that under the coordination
of the UNESCO World Heritage Center, China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan implemented the transnational declaration of the Silk Road as the world heritage. The "Silk Roads: the Routes Network
of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor", a cultural heritage stretching nearly 5000 kilometers with 33 heritage sites, showing the historical testimony of friendly exchanges and cultural integration among
the countries along the Silk Road. It showed the attitude of tolerance, openness and cooperation of Chinese culture.
Mr.Toshiyuki Kono, president of ICOMOS, said that IICC-X, as the international secretariat of the Coordinating C ommittee on the Serial World Heritage Nomination of the Silk Roads, played a full
role as a bridge in the nomination process and contributed to the success. After the inscription, we still make unremitting efforts toprotect, manage and publicize the cultural heritage. This was al so the spiritual concept advocated by ICOMOS to promote cultural exchanges in order to protect cultural heritage.
Ms. KULMUHAMMED ZHAZIRA, first secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, said that as a country along the "Belt and Road Initiative" route, Kazakhstan will certainly continue to
support the protection of cultural heritage and make good use of historical and cultural heritage at all levels. We will deepen communication and cooperation with countries along the Silk Road.
Ms Ainura Tentieva, adviser of the Kyrgystan National Committee of UNESCO, addressed that the success of the application had increased attention to the conservation, management, research, advocacy and public education of heritage along the Silk Roads. People also cherished the profound f riendship established with China and Kazakhstan through the Silk Roads.
Mr.Xu Mingfei, vice mayor of the Xi'an people's Government, said that the China-EU special train can travel from Xi'an, China to Baku, Azerbaijan. Today, we held an international photo exhibition of the Silk Roads in Baku, w hich really reflected that the Silk Roads had played an important role in ideological, political and cultural exchanges since ancient times. As the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, Xi'an not only gained five World Heritage sites, but also set up ICOMOS professional organizations such as IICC, which greatly demonstrated the connotation of cultural
heritage in Xi'an. In the future, the Xi'an Municipal Government will continue to strengthen the protection of cultural heritage, give full play to the role of the starting city of Silk Road, and constantly promote the creative transformation and innovative development of cultural heritage resources.
Ms. Hae Un Rii (South Korea), former executive committee of ICOMOS, delivered a speech reviewing her deep feelings of participating in the work of applying for the world heritage. Mr. Feng Jian, executive deputy director of the IICC-X, presided over the event, welcomed the distinguished guests and declared the exhibition officially open.
The side event was strongly supported by the organizers o f the 43rd World Heritage Conference and sponsored by the local social firms in Xi'an. At the same time, a sincere appreciation to Mr. Shahin Mustafayev, former director of IICAS, for his kinds assistance to the events.
