Focusing on the Heritage of Rural Landscape, Students held “Classics Debate” at the Small Wild Goose Pagoda

Every year on April 18, the International Scientific Committee of
ICOMOS proposes various topic and organizes a wide range of
events to promote monument and sites and the public aw areness
of cultural heritage’s diversity and close connection to daily
life. The key theme for 2019 is “rural landscape”.
IICC-X organizes various of public events every year to respond
to the call of ICOMOS International. In 2019, IICC-X laid foundation
for the forthcoming season of the promotion for cultural heritage
by hosting a specific debate competition focused on the
preservation of cultural heritage. Held at the Small Wild Goose
Pagoda, the competition attracted hundreds of tourists and
students from elementary schools, high schools, and colleges.
This event was co-organized by the Xi’an Institute and Archaeology,
IICC-X, and Xi’ an Museum. It promoted knowledge for the
conservation of cultural heritage to the public through four sections
that are participated bystudents from elementary schools,
high schools, and colleges. The topic for elementary school was
“Who has received stronger influence from the cultural exchange along the
Silk Road, Chinese or foreigners?” The first topic for high school students was
“whether a vanished architecture can be re-visualised and re-valuable by exhibition
and interpretation?” The second was “Which is more important for tourism
development of rural landscape: cultural and heritage value -based interpretation,
or leisure and entertainmentexperience?” College stu dents’ topic
was “Would the nomination of rural landscape change the aboriginal li fe
style?”
This event had invited the archaeologist An Jiayao from the Central Academy
of Literature and History, Ge Chengyong, Director at the Cultural Relics Press,
Yan Haiming, Secretariat Director at ICOMOS China, as well as experts and
front-line staffs working on conservation and management of Xi’ an heritages,
such as Zheng Yulin, former director of Xi’ an Administration of Cultural Heritage,
Ma Lijun, Deputy Director at the Xi’an Administration of Cultural Heritage,
and Guan Zhaoyi, Deputy Supervisor at the office of preservation conservation
for the heritage site of the Daming Palace in Qujiang District, Xi’ an. Participants
of the debate and audiences are from a variety of renowned schools of
Xi’an, and Shaanxi Province.
